Out for a Sunday drive

Autumn is here! I’m so excited, I can barely contain myself. It’s my favorite season. I love the cloudless skies, the cool, crisp air and the colorful leaves on the trees.¬†

Yesterday was the perfect day for a Sunday drive. Temperatures were in the high 60’s and the sun was shining. It was a beautiful day. What more could you ask for? My husband and I decided to take advantage of the weather and go out for a drive to Highlands, North Carolina.¬†Highlands is a quaint town situated in the mountains. It’s a great place to visit and to hang out for the day. We dressed in layers, grabbed some bottles of water, made sure to take the Ipod and a camera, and we were off!

First order of business – have a lazy lunch outside. When the weather is this nice, there’s nothing better than eating lunch outside. After that, we walked around town and shopped, but mostly browsed, and then found a nice place to sit in the shade and watch all the tourists pass us by.

On our way home, we made sure to stop at the scenic overlook and take a bunch of cheesy photos of ourselves in front of the view. The picture you see above is of Lake Jocassee. It’s an old photo, but was much prettier than the photo we took yesterday. That photo paled in comparison. It was blurry and we were too far away for you to see the actual lake. With the photo above, you can see how pretty Jocassee is.

If you’re from the south, it’s pronounced “Joe Cassee.” Lake Jocassee is one of my most favorite places to visit in the Upstate of South Carolina. I love it so much, it made an appearance in The Summer I Learned to Dive! There was a slight name change. It became Lake Kiowassee, instead. But nonetheless, it was in there. It’s the lake on the cover of the book, too. Now that is love!

Fall is the perfect time to get in your car and to explore. What’s next for us? We’re thinking a trip to the apple orchard or a drive to Asheville. Who knows? All I know is autumn is here!!!
